# Hodierna > The notebook by the cot, on the phone already in your hand. Feeds, nappies, sleep and growth in one tap. Free forever, and it works with no signal. Hodierna is a baby logbook for iPhone, made in the Netherlands. It replaces the paper book Dutch kraamzorg leaves behind: feeds, nappies, sleep, growth, temperature, medicine and notes, written down in one tap and readable by whoever is helping. Four things govern the product and are the answers to most questions about it: 1. **It gives no medical advice.** It is not a medical device and not a monitor. It states facts — "3.28 kg, 185 g less than last time" — and never interprets them, never reassures, and never says anything is fine. The people who can are the verloskundige, the huisarts and the consultatiebureau. 2. **Nothing needed at 3am is behind a paywall or a network.** The whole logbook is free forever and works fully offline; every entry is written on the phone without waiting for a server. 3. **Permissions never fail open.** Unknown, missing, expired or unparseable all mean no, and it is enforced on the server rather than only in the app. 4. **Analytics may know that something happened, never what it said.** No entry contents, names, measurements, photos or documents are sent as telemetry. Pricing: the logbook is free. Premium adds document storage (2 GB), export and the kept archive, at €5,99 per month, €29,99 per year, €69,99 once. AI features are bought separately as credits, which do not expire and work on any plan. There is no advertising and nothing is sold to anybody. The site is published in English (unprefixed), Dutch (/nl) and Turkish (/tr). Dutch care terms — kraamzorg, verloskundige, consultatiebureau, huisarts — are kept in Dutch in all three languages, because they name Dutch institutions. ## Pages - [Home](https://hodierna.app/): what it is, what it refuses to do, prices, and the questions people actually ask. - [Help center](https://hodierna.app/help): Screenshots, short recordings and plain answers for every part of Hodierna: the home screen, the feeding timer, Night Watch, pregnancy mode, scans, sharing, day and night, Premium and your data. - [Blog](https://hodierna.app/blog): notes on building it — what it does, what it refuses to do, and why. - [Prices](https://hodierna.app/#pricing): the free tier, Premium, and the credit packs. - [Privacy](https://hodierna.app/privacy): what is stored, where, on what legal basis, and how to get it back or destroyed. - [Terms](https://hodierna.app/terms): subscriptions, the withdrawal right, and the limits of what the app claims. - [Delete your account](https://hodierna.app/delete-account): how erasure works, and what survives it and why. ## Answers - **Where is my data?** In our own infrastructure in Europe. Photos and documents sit in private storage that only people you have invited can read, and every request checks that permission on the server rather than only in the app. - **Can a midwife or nurse write in it?** Yes, if you invite her. You choose what she can do and when her access ends — ten days by default, which is roughly how long she is with you. It ends on its own; you do not have to remember to switch it off. - **Does it work without signal?** Completely. Everything is written to the phone first. The badge says "waiting" when something has not synced yet — that is normal, not an error. - **What happens when I stop paying?** The logbook keeps working, because the logbook is free. If you bought Forever there is nothing to stop paying for. On the yearly plan you lose document storage and export; nothing you wrote is ever taken away or locked, and any AI credits you bought stay yours. - **Why is the free tier so generous?** Because the logbook costs almost nothing to run, and charging for something that costs nothing is a bad deal dressed up as a business model. Storage and inference do cost money, so those are what you pay for — and they are split apart, because storage is a few cents a month and can honestly be sold once, while every AI call costs again each time it is made. - **Will it tell me if something is wrong?** No, and it will not tell you that things are fine either — it cannot know. It records what you enter and reminds you at intervals you set. Everything clinical belongs with your midwife, doctor or health visitor. ## What it is not - **It is not a medical device**, and it gives no diagnosis or advice. - **It is not a monitor.** It knows only what somebody typed in. - **It is not a coach.** No targets, no scores, no streaks. Nobody needs a badge for feeding their own child. - **It does not replace your midwife, doctor or child health service.** For anything clinical — a temperature, a rash, a feeling that something is off — contact them, and trust that instinct over anything on a screen. ## Writing - [I built this because I needed it](https://hodierna.app/blog/why-i-built-this): A logbook for my own daughter: why centralising it mattered, and the three engineering decisions I was not willing to compromise on — no data sold, everything exportable, and the parts you need at 3am free forever. - [Kraamzorg explained, for people who did not grow up here](https://hodierna.app/blog/kraamzorg-explained): The Netherlands sends a trained maternity carer to your home for the first week after birth. What it is, who comes, what they do, and what to arrange. - [Why this app will never tell you your baby is fine](https://hodierna.app/blog/never-tell-you-fine): The most requested feature in every baby app is reassurance. We will not ship it — not as a disclaimer, but as a rule with a test that fails the build. - [Logging one-handed at 3am](https://hodierna.app/blog/one-handed-at-3am): Notes from building a baby logbook for the worst moment of the day: one thumb, no light, no signal, and a person who will not remember any of it tomorrow. - [The logbook, not the lecture: why Hodierna exists](https://hodierna.app/blog/hello-hodierna): The kraamzorg leaves a paper book behind. This is the story of moving it onto the phone that was already in our hand — and of what we refused to build along the way. ## Optional - [Full text](https://hodierna.app/llms-full.txt): every page's prose in one file. - [RSS](https://hodierna.app/rss.xml): the blog, all three languages in one feed. - [Sitemap](https://hodierna.app/sitemap-index.xml) - Contact: hallo@hodierna.app
